William M. Akers is a writer and teacher, currently teaching screenwriting at Belmont University. He created their Motion Pictures program in 2013 which now has 110 students.  They recently opened a Motion Pictures facility which has a complete sound stage along with post production audio and a 250 seat theater.

The inspiration for Mrs. Ravenbach’s Way comes from Akers' teaching as well as being a Boy Scout scoutmaster for seven years.  His philosophy is “A great teacher can have an incredible effect on a child. I had amazing teachers all through grade school, high school, college, and graduate school. I also know, from being a teacher, how important it is to give students encouragement. You can really light a fire under someone.”

Akers taught screenwriting and filmmaking at Vanderbilt University for nineteen years.  His book Your Screenplay Sucks!, published in 2008, offers writers the tools they need to get their screenplay noticed.  A Lifetime Member of the Writers Guild of America, he has had three feature films produced from his screenplays. He has traveled to Beijing, London, Paris, southern France, and cities and universities all over the United States giving writing workshops and seminars.

Akers speaks reasonably decent French and was a Jeopardy! contestant.
